The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 57272 is a welded black steel pipe nipple rated for Schedule 40 service. It measures 30 inches in length with 1-1/4 inch male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends, making it a standard close-to-long nipple for gas, steam, or liquid piping systems. The pipe wall is 0.14 inches thick and the threaded engagement length is 1.01 inches per end, conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards. Rated to 1,300 psi, this nipple handles demanding pressure requirements across a wide temperature range of -150 to 200 degrees F. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for this type of fitting.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial gas distribution lines, steam systems, compressed air, and general-purpose fluid piping. Its black steel construction makes it appropriate for natural gas and propane supply lines where galvanized fittings are not permitted. The SCH 40 wall rating satisfies typical code requirements for low-pressure gas and steam distribution in both new construction and retrofit applications. Installers working on boiler systems, unit heaters, or gas header assemblies will find this length useful for spanning moderate distances between fittings without requiring a union or coupling.
Designed as a standard SCH 40 black steel pipe nipple for use with 1-1/4 inch NPT fittings, valves, and threaded pipe connections in gas, steam, and general fluid piping systems.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, the International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), or the International Plumbing Code (IPC) as appropriate. Shut off the gas or fluid supply and depressurize the line fully before threading or removing any fittings. Apply an approved pipe thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the specific service medium before making up threaded connections. Do not use this nipple in applications that exceed its rated pressure or temperature limits.
