The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 57190 is a welded black steel pipe nipple rated for Schedule 40 service. It connects two 2-1/2 inch male pipe thread (MPT) fittings with a 9 inch laying length and a 0.203 inch wall thickness. Rated to 2500 psi and tested across a temperature range of -150 to 200 degrees F, this nipple suits high-demand plumbing, gas distribution, and industrial piping systems. The black finish is standard for natural gas and other fuel-gas applications. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting when making threaded connections in black iron piping systems where full-port flow and structural integrity are required.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial piping installations involving natural gas, steam, air, and water systems. It is a common component in boiler rooms, mechanical rooms, fire suppression risers, and industrial process lines where Schedule 40 black steel pipe is specified. The 9 inch length provides adequate reach for offset connections and service clearances in tight mechanical spaces. Threaded ends conform to ANSI B1.20.1, making this fitting compatible with standard NPT fittings and valves throughout the system.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 40 black steel threaded piping systems using 2-1/2 inch NPT connections conforming to ANSI B1.20.1.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local codes, IFGC requirements for gas systems, or ASME B31 piping standards for pressure applications. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium before makeup, and tighten to hand-tight plus the number of turns appropriate for the pipe size per standard practice. Do not over-torque threaded connections, as this can crack fittings or distort threads.
