The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 57181T is a Schedule 40 black steel welded pipe nipple designed for use in threaded pipe systems across plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical piping applications. One end features a standard tapered thread (TOE) conforming to ANSI B1.20.1, while the opposite end is plain, making it suitable for welded or custom-threaded field connections. The nipple measures 3 inches in length with a nominal pipe size of 2-1/2 inches and a thread specification of 2-1/2-8. Rated for temperatures from -200 to 150 degrees F, it is sized and rated for general-purpose commercial and industrial service. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the primary installers.
This nipple fits standard Schedule 40 black steel pipe systems in residential, commercial, and light industrial settings. It is commonly used in natural gas supply lines, steam systems, water distribution, and compressed air piping where a short close or shoulder nipple with one threaded end is required. The plain end allows the installer to field-cut or weld to suit specific run lengths and configurations. It is categorized under Black SCH 40 Steel Nipples in the Threaded One End product family.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard component for 2-1/2 inch Schedule 40 black steel threaded pipe systems conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or certified pipefitter in accordance with applicable local mechanical and plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system fully before removing or installing any fitting. Apply appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the threaded end before making up the joint; the plain end requires field preparation before connection. Do not overtighten threaded joints, as this can crack fittings or distort threads.
