The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 57162GB is a Schedule 40 black steel pipe nipple with a 2-inch grooved end on one side and a 2-inch beveled end on the other. At 3 inches in length, this short-run nipple is built for close-coupled connections in piping systems where both groove and bevel transitions are required in the same assembly. Constructed from black steel to SCH 40 wall thickness, it delivers the structural integrity needed for moderate-pressure applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in commercial and industrial piping layouts. Its rated temperature range of -200 to 150 degrees F supports a broad set of service conditions.
This nipple is suited for black steel piping systems in commercial mechanical rooms, fire suppression rough-in, and industrial process piping where grooved mechanical couplings meet beveled-end pipe or flanged transitions. The grooved end accepts standard mechanical groove couplings, while the beveled end is prepared for welding. This makes it a practical transition piece in hybrid piping assemblies that combine weld and grooved-joint construction. Installers typically use this fitting when connecting grooved-joint equipment to welded steel pipe runs.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 40 black steel piping systems using grooved mechanical couplings at one connection point and beveled weld-prep pipe at the other.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or certified pipefitter in accordance with applicable plumbing and mechanical codes, including IPC and ASME B31 piping standards where applicable. Depressurize and isolate the piping system completely before removing or installing any fitting. The beveled end is weld-prep ready and should be joined by a qualified welder following standard procedures for black steel pipe. Inspect threads and grooves for damage before assembly and ensure the mechanical coupling or weld joint is fully seated before returning the system to service.
