The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 56343 is a Schedule 40 galvanized steel welded pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe systems in commercial and industrial plumbing, gas distribution, and mechanical piping applications. Measuring 36 inches in length with a 4-inch diameter, it features male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends with a 4-8 thread count and a thread length of 1.74 inches. Wall thickness is 0.237 inches, rated to 2,210 psi. The galvanized steel construction provides corrosion resistance suitable for water, air, and compatible fluid service. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for fittings of this size and pressure class.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial piping systems where Schedule 40 threaded steel pipe is specified. Typical applications include water supply mains, compressed air lines, industrial process piping, and gas distribution headers. The 36-inch length makes it appropriate for spanning longer runs between fittings without an additional coupling. Conformance to ANSI B1.20.1 dimensional standards ensures thread compatibility with standard NPT fittings and valves throughout the system.
Designed as a standard OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 40 galvanized steel threaded pipe systems using 4-inch NPT connections conforming to ANSI B1.20.1.
Installation of 4-inch threaded steel nipples should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the system type. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing threaded fittings. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid before hand-tightening, then wrench-tighten to a leak-free connection. Inspect threads for damage before installation and do not use fittings with deformed or cross-threaded connections.
