The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 56340 is a Schedule 40 galvanized steel welded pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, industrial, and mechanical piping systems. It measures 18 inches in length with a 4-inch diameter and carries male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends, conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards with a 4-8 thread count and a thread length of 1.74 inches. The wall thickness is 0.237 inches, and the nipple is rated to 2,210 psi working pressure. The hot-dip galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance for use in demanding environments. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers for this fitting.
This nipple is suited for Schedule 40 threaded steel pipe systems in residential, commercial, and light industrial applications. Common installation scenarios include water supply lines, gas distribution headers, fire suppression systems, and mechanical room piping where a robust, corrosion-resistant close or extension nipple is required. The 18-inch length makes it appropriate for offset runs or extensions between fittings, valves, or flanged components in 4-inch pipe systems. Its rated temperature range of -200 to 150 degrees F covers most standard service conditions.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 40 galvanized steel threaded pipe systems using 4-inch MPT connections conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the International Plumbing Code (IPC) or local mechanical codes. Shut off and depressurize the pipe system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly. Do not overtighten, as this can crack fittings or distort threads.
