The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 56300 is a Schedule 40 galvanized steel close nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, industrial, and mechanical piping systems. Constructed from steel with a hot-dip galvanized finish, this nipple provides corrosion resistance in both wet and dry environments. It measures 3.125 inches in overall length with a 6-inch diameter and carries a 150 lb pressure class rating with a maximum working pressure of 2500 psi. Both ends are male pipe thread (MPT) cut to a 6-8 thread specification with a thread engagement length of 1.06 inches. Wall thickness is 0.154 inches, conforming to SCH 40 dimensional standards. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the typical installers.
The 56300 is suited for residential and commercial piping applications where a short threaded connection is needed between two female-threaded fittings, valves, or equipment ports. Common install scenarios include water supply lines, fire protection systems, compressed air distribution, and general industrial fluid transfer. The galvanized coating makes it appropriate for outdoor or exposed locations where bare steel would be susceptible to rust. It meets ANSI B1.20.1 dimensional standards, ensuring thread compatibility with standard NPT fittings throughout the assembly.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 6-inch NPT female-threaded fittings, valves, and flanges conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local mechanical and plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before make-up. Do not over-tighten; use a pipe wrench with a backup wrench on the mating fitting to avoid stressing downstream connections.
