The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 56050 is a Schedule 40 galvanized steel pipe nipple with 3/8-inch male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends and an overall length of 6 inches. It is designed for use in low-pressure piping systems where a short threaded extension or connection between two female-threaded fittings is needed. The galvanized steel construction provides corrosion resistance suitable for water, air, and general-purpose piping applications. With a pressure rating of 700 psi and a temperature range of -150 to 200 degrees F, this nipple meets ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters typically install this type of fitting in residential and light commercial systems.
The 56050 is appropriate for use in residential and commercial plumbing, water distribution, compressed air, and general industrial piping where 3/8-inch threaded galvanized fittings are specified. It connects directly between standard female NPT fittings and is well suited for tight-space runs where a close or short nipple is not sufficient but a longer pipe section is not needed. The SCH 40 wall thickness and galvanized finish make it compatible with above-ground and in-wall installations in both new construction and retrofit work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard component for 3/8-inch threaded galvanized Schedule 40 piping systems using NPT-compatible female fittings and valves.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter using pipe wrenches and thread sealant or PTFE tape applied to the male threads. The system must be depressurized and drained before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Tighten connections to hand-tight plus the appropriate number of turns per trade practice and the fitting manufacturer guidance - do not overtighten, as this can crack female fittings. Work should comply with applicable local plumbing codes and ANSI standards.
