The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 56020 is a close pipe nipple designed for threaded piping systems in plumbing, gas, and general industrial applications. Manufactured from galvanized steel to Schedule 40 specifications, this nipple measures 7/8 inches in overall length with 1/4-18 NPT male threads on both ends. The galvanized finish provides corrosion resistance suited for water distribution and light gas service. Wall thickness is 0.068 inches, and the fitting is rated to 150 lb pressure class with a working pressure of 700 psi. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install close nipples like this one when minimal spacing is required between fittings in a threaded pipe assembly.
This fitting is used in residential and light commercial piping systems where 1/4 inch MPT threaded connections are required. Typical applications include water supply lines, compressed air distribution, and low-pressure gas piping. The close-cut length makes it suitable for tight-clearance installations where a standard-length nipple would not fit. It conforms to ANSI B1.20.1 thread dimensional standards, ensuring thread compatibility across standard NPT fittings.
Designed as a standard OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with 1/4 inch NPT threaded pipe systems and fittings across residential and light commercial plumbing, gas, and compressed air piping assemblies.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter using a pipe wrench and appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the intended service medium. Shut off supply pressure and fully depressurize the line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Do not overtighten, as this can crack fittings downstream or strip threads. For gas service, verify local code requirements under the IFGC before installation and pressure-test the assembly after make-up.
