The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 55804 is a Schedule 40 PVC adapter fitting that transitions between a 3-inch female socket (slip) connection and a 3-inch female pipe thread (FPT) connection. It is designed for use in low-pressure water distribution, drainage, and general plumbing systems where a solvent-weld socket end must connect to a threaded pipe or valve. PVC construction makes it suitable for cold and ambient-temperature water service. Plumbers and pipefitters select this adapter when joining smooth pipe into a threaded port without additional couplings. The slip socket end accepts standard 3-inch PVC pipe for solvent-cement bonding, while the FPT end threads onto a male-threaded fitting, valve, or pump port.
This adapter is used in residential and light commercial plumbing installations, including water supply lines, irrigation mainlines, pool and spa plumbing, and general Schedule 40 PVC piping systems. It is a direct-connect solution wherever a slip-to-threaded transition is required at 3-inch pipe size. The fitting is sold individually, making it easy to source as a single replacement or for new construction roughing work.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-construction fitting for Schedule 40 PVC piping systems using 3-inch pipe and standard NPT threaded connections.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Before installation, shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure completely. Apply a compatible PVC primer and solvent cement to the slip socket end per the cement manufacturer's instructions before inserting the pipe. Use appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape on the FPT threads to ensure a leak-free connection; do not overtighten threaded joints in PVC as this can crack the fitting body.
