The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 55241 is a Schedule 80 PVC pipe nipple used to extend or connect threaded pipe runs in plumbing and fluid-handling systems. It features 1/2-inch male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends and measures 24 inches in length. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides a working pressure rating of 420 psi, making it suitable for pressure applications where standard Schedule 40 fittings are insufficient. Manufactured from PVC in a dark gray finish, the nipple conforms to ASTM F1498 dimensional standards. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in residential and light commercial systems where corrosion resistance and chemical compatibility are required.
This nipple is commonly used in cold-water supply lines, irrigation systems, chemical distribution, and industrial plumbing applications where PVC is the specified pipe material. Its 24-inch length makes it well suited for spanning longer gaps between fittings or equipment connections without the need for a union or coupling. The 1/2-14 thread form ensures accurate engagement with standard NPT-threaded fittings and valves. It is particularly useful in situations where metal pipe would be subject to corrosion or where weight reduction is a factor in the installation design.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fitment nipple for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems using 1/2-inch NPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable IPC codes and local plumbing ordinances. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Use PTFE tape or a thread sealant rated for PVC and the fluid being conveyed. Do not use excessive torque when tightening PVC threaded fittings, as overtightening can crack the fitting body.
