The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 55182 is a Schedule 80 PVC pipe nipple designed for threaded plumbing connections in industrial and commercial piping systems. It measures 4 inches in length with a 2-1/2 inch diameter and features male pipe thread (MPT) on both ends. The SCH 80 wall thickness provides a pressure rating of 125 psi, making it suitable for higher-demand applications where standard Schedule 40 fittings are not adequate. Manufactured from dark gray PVC, this nipple offers corrosion resistance and chemical compatibility for a wide range of fluid-handling systems. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting where a short threaded extension or close nipple run is needed between fittings, valves, or equipment.
This nipple is used in residential, commercial, and light industrial plumbing systems where SCH 80 PVC is specified. Typical applications include chemical drainage lines, irrigation manifolds, pool and spa equipment connections, and industrial process piping. The 2-1/2-8 thread specification conforms to ASTM F1498 dimensional standards, ensuring consistent fit with standard NPT-threaded fittings and valves. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters handle installation in systems requiring Schedule 80 pressure ratings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems using 2-1/2 inch NPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing codes. Depressurize and drain the system fully before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and hand-tighten followed by wrench tightening - avoid over-torquing PVC threads, as this can crack the fitting. Do not use this fitting with incompatible solvents or fluids that degrade PVC.
