The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 55174 is a Schedule 80 PVC pipe nipple configured with 2-inch male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends and a 12-inch body length. Built from dark gray PVC, this nipple delivers a pressure rating of 200 psi, making it suitable for demanding industrial and commercial plumbing lines where standard Schedule 40 fittings fall short. Thread form follows the 2-11-1/2 taper standard per ASTM F1498. Plumbers and pipefitters install this nipple to extend runs, offset connections, or complete close-coupled assemblies in pressure piping systems. The 2-inch diameter and full 12-inch length make it a direct-fit component in a wide range of Schedule 80 PVC configurations.
This nipple is used in residential, commercial, and light industrial pressure piping applications where corrosion resistance and chemical compatibility are required. Typical install scenarios include irrigation headers, chemical feed lines, pump discharge connections, and water treatment systems. The Schedule 80 wall thickness provides added mechanical strength compared to Schedule 40, which is why it is specified in higher-pressure or exposed-piping environments. Licensed plumbers routinely select this fitting when working on systems that require threaded PVC connections rated for sustained pressure service.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard component for Schedule 80 PVC threaded piping systems using 2-inch MPT connections.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Always depressurize and drain the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fittings. Use a compatible thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for PVC and the specific media being conveyed. Do not over-tighten threaded PVC fittings, as excessive torque can crack the fitting body or damage threads.
