The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 54064820 is a hex pipe reducer bushing designed to transition between a 3-inch male NPTF connection and a 1-1/4-inch female NPTF connection in hydraulic and industrial piping systems. Constructed from steel, this bushing delivers the mechanical strength and pressure resistance required in demanding fluid power applications. The hexagonal body allows for positive wrench engagement during installation and removal. It is part of Midland Industries 5406 Series steel pipe adapters, built to NPTF thread standards for pressure-tight, dryseal performance without the need for additional sealants under normal conditions.
This reducer bushing is used in hydraulic systems, industrial fluid lines, and high-pressure piping assemblies where a pipe or fitting of a larger diameter must connect to a smaller-diameter port or fitting. Typical applications include hydraulic power units, manifold connections, pump inlets and outlets, and similar steel pipe adapter installations in industrial and mobile equipment environments. It is installed by hydraulic technicians, pipefitters, and maintenance mechanics working with steel pipe systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for steel pipe hydraulic and industrial fluid systems using NPTF threaded connections.
Installation is typically performed by licensed pipefitters or hydraulic technicians. De-pressurize and bleed down the hydraulic circuit completely before removing or installing any fittings. Use a properly sized pipe wrench or open-end wrench on the hex body - do not use pliers or adjustable tools that may damage the hex profile. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape as required by your system specifications and applicable codes, even with NPTF dryseal threads, when system pressure or fluid type demands additional sealing assurance.
