The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 540608SC is a D.O.T.-compliant 45-degree male elbow fitting designed for compressed air brake systems in commercial vehicles and industrial pneumatic applications. It connects a 3/8-inch push-to-connect port to a 1/2-inch male NPT port, allowing a directional change in the air line without sacrificing sealing integrity. The composite body keeps weight low while meeting D.O.T. pressure and temperature requirements. A positional swivel feature lets the technician orient the elbow before locking down the connection, simplifying routing in tight spaces. Rated to 145 psi and operable from -40 to 140 degrees F, this fitting suits demanding under-hood and chassis environments.
This fitting is used in commercial truck and trailer air brake plumbing, pneumatic control lines, and other D.O.T.-regulated compressed air circuits. It is commonly installed by fleet maintenance technicians, diesel mechanics, and heavy-equipment service professionals. The 3/8-inch push-to-connect port accepts standard nylon or polyethylene air brake tubing, while the 1/2-14 NPT male thread mates directly to valves, manifolds, tanks, or port blocks requiring a 1/2-inch NPT female connection.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or service fitting for D.O.T.-regulated air brake and pneumatic systems using 3/8-inch push-to-connect tubing and 1/2-inch female NPT ports.
Installation should be performed by a qualified diesel mechanic or air brake technician in accordance with applicable D.O.T. and FMCSA air brake system regulations. Depressurize the air system completely before removing or installing any air brake fittings. Insert tubing fully into the push-to-connect port until it seats, and verify a secure connection with a gentle pull-test before returning the system to service. Apply thread sealant to the NPT male threads as required by shop practice; do not over-tighten, as composite body fittings have defined torque limitations specified by the manufacturer.
