The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 51162 is a seamless pipe nipple constructed from 304 stainless steel and rated for heavy-duty industrial and commercial piping applications. With male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends and a 2-11-1/2 thread specification per ANSI/ASME B1.20.1, this nipple delivers reliable, leak-resistant joints in demanding service conditions. The Schedule 80 wall thickness supports a 3000 psi pressure rating, making it suitable for high-pressure systems. At 3 inches in length and 2 inches in diameter, it is a close nipple ideal for tight installations. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors typically specify this fitting when stainless steel corrosion resistance and high-pressure integrity are required.
This seamless stainless steel nipple is rated for use with air, water, oil, natural gas, and steam media, giving it broad application across industrial process piping, commercial HVAC mechanical rooms, plumbing systems, and oil and gas distribution lines. The 304 stainless steel construction resists corrosion in wet and chemically active environments, making it a common choice for food-service facilities, marine installations, and chemical processing lines where carbon steel fittings would be inappropriate. It is equally suitable for residential and light commercial gas piping where stainless is specified.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 80 stainless steel piping systems using standard NPT threads per ANSI/ASME B1.20.1.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC codes for the intended media. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the specific media and pressure class before assembly. Do not over-tighten stainless steel threads, as galling can occur; use proper thread engagement practices for stainless-to-stainless or stainless-to-brass connections.
