The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 500064 is a steel reducing pipe coupling designed to connect two female NPTF ports of different sizes in hydraulic and fluid-transfer systems. It steps down from a 3/8-inch Female NPTF port to a 1/4-inch Female NPTF port, with thread specifications of 3/8-18 and 1/4-18. Built to SAE 140138 dimension standards, this coupling handles a maximum operating pressure of 3000 psi and a maximum operating temperature of 375 degrees F. It is a compact, single-piece fitting suited for use wherever a reliable, leak-resistant pipe connection is required in steel piping runs.
This coupling is used in hydraulic systems, fluid power circuits, and industrial plumbing applications where a reducer is needed between two female NPTF threaded lines. Its NPTF thread form creates a dry-seal connection, reducing the risk of leakage without relying solely on thread sealant. The fitting is appropriate for residential, commercial, and light industrial installations and is commonly specified by hydraulic technicians, pipefitters, and plumbers working on steel pipe assemblies that require a step-down connection between two female ports.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for steel hydraulic and fluid-power pipe systems using NPTF-threaded connections in the 3/8-inch and 1/4-inch port size range.
Installation should be performed by a licensed pipefitter or qualified hydraulic technician. Depressurize and isolate the hydraulic circuit completely before removing or installing any fittings. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads mating into this coupling per the system manufacturer's requirements, even though NPTF threads are designed as dry-seal connections. Follow applicable industry codes and the equipment manufacturer's specifications for torque and pressure testing after installation.
