The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 49148 is a welded pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, industrial, and mechanical systems. Constructed from 316 stainless steel, it delivers strong corrosion resistance in demanding environments including chemical exposure, saltwater, and high-moisture applications. The nipple measures 5.5 inches in length with a 1.5-inch diameter and carries a Schedule 40 wall rating, making it suitable for moderate-pressure service up to 150 psi. Both ends are machined to 1-1/2 in MPT (male pipe thread) conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 standards. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in new construction and retrofit work where corrosion resistance and thread integrity are critical.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial piping systems where 316 stainless steel is specified for corrosion-resistant service. Typical applications include process piping, marine installations, chemical handling lines, and potable or non-potable water distribution. The Schedule 40 wall thickness and 150 psi pressure rating make it appropriate for standard-pressure fluid transfer lines. It threads directly into standard 1-1/2 in NPT fittings, valves, and equipment connections wherever a short-run male-to-male nipple is needed.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for standard 1-1/2 in NPT threaded connections in Schedule 40 piping systems. Compatible with any valve, fitting, or equipment port conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards at 1-1/2 in NPT.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off and depressurize the affected line before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and hand-tighten before applying wrench torque to avoid cross-threading. Inspect threads on mating components for damage before installation to ensure a leak-free joint.
