The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 49145 is a welded pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, industrial, and mechanical piping systems. Constructed from 316 stainless steel, this nipple measures 4 inches in length with a 1-1/2-inch outside diameter and carries a Schedule 40 wall thickness rating. Both ends are male pipe thread (MPT) connections conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards, with a 1-1/2-11-1/2 thread form. Rated for 150 psi service pressure, this fitting is well suited for corrosive-environment applications where carbon steel or brass fittings would be inadequate. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors are the primary installers.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial piping systems that require corrosion resistance, including chemical handling lines, marine environments, food-service plumbing, and coastal installations. The 316 stainless steel alloy provides improved resistance to chlorides and harsh media compared to 304 SS. At 4 inches in length and 1-1/2 inches in diameter, it fits standard Schedule 40 pipe runs where a short extension or transition piece is needed between two threaded fittings, valves, or equipment ports.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for Schedule 40 threaded pipe systems using 1-1/2 in NPT-compatible connections per ANSI B1.20.1.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC and local mechanical code requirements. Depressurize and drain the pipe system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service media to all male threads before assembly. Do not over-torque stainless steel threads, as galling can occur - use a calibrated pipe wrench and follow standard engagement depth guidelines for the thread size.
