The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 49044 is a welded pipe nipple designed for threaded piping systems requiring corrosion-resistant construction. Manufactured from 316 stainless steel, this nipple measures 3 inches in length with 3/8-inch male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends and carries a Schedule 40 pressure rating of 150 psi. The 3/8-18 thread form conforms to ANSI B1.20.1 dimensional standards, ensuring consistent fit with standard NPT fittings. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple as a short close connector between valves, pumps, strainers, or other threaded components where stainless steel is required for corrosion or sanitary considerations.
This nipple is suited for residential and commercial plumbing, process piping, and mechanical systems where 316 stainless steel is specified for resistance to corrosive media, chlorides, or high-moisture environments. Typical applications include chemical feed lines, food-grade process systems, marine installations, and potable water systems where iron or brass fittings are not acceptable. The Schedule 40 wall thickness supports moderate-pressure service at 150 psi, making it appropriate for general fluid handling within that pressure range.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 3/8-inch NPT threaded fittings, valves, and equipment conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread specifications.
Installation of threaded stainless steel pipe nipples should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter familiar with applicable IPC and local plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid before making up the joint hand-tight, then wrench-tighten to a snug fit without over-torquing, which can crack fittings or distort threads. Avoid using carbon steel tools that may contaminate the stainless steel surface and promote corrosion.
