The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 49009 is a welded pipe nipple machined from 316 stainless steel and rated for Schedule 40 service. It connects two 1/8 in male pipe thread (MPT) fittings with a measured face-to-face length of 5 inches and an outside diameter of 0.125 inches. The 1/8-27 thread form conforms to ANSI B1.20.1 dimensional standards, ensuring consistent thread engagement with mating NPT fittings. Rated to 150 psi, this nipple is suited for low- to moderate-pressure piping runs in corrosive or high-purity environments. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians install this type of fitting when extending or connecting threaded iron pipe systems where corrosion resistance is a priority.
This nipple is commonly used in residential and light commercial plumbing, gas, and instrumentation systems where 1/8 in threaded connections are required. The 316 stainless steel alloy provides superior resistance to chloride and chemical corrosion compared to standard 304 SS, making it well-suited for marine, chemical process, and food-service adjacent installations. The Schedule 40 wall thickness delivers adequate pressure containment for typical service conditions in these environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for 1/8 in NPT threaded piping systems using Schedule 40 fittings and valves conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and IFGC codes for the service fluid type. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service medium before hand-tightening and then wrench-tightening to a snug, leak-free engagement. Do not over-tighten, as over-torquing can crack fittings or damage threads.
