The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 48187 is a welded pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe systems requiring a short, rigid male-to-male connection. Constructed from 304 stainless steel, this nipple handles operating pressures up to 150 psi and is rated at Schedule 40 wall thickness. Both ends are machined to 2-1/2 in MPT threads conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 standards, ensuring consistent fitment in standard NPT-threaded fittings and valves. At 6 inches in length, it suits close-coupled connections where a hex nipple would be too short and a longer pipe run is unnecessary. Plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors install this type of nipple in process piping, commercial plumbing, and industrial fluid-handling systems.
This nipple is suited for Schedule 40 piping systems in residential, commercial, and light industrial applications. The 304 stainless steel construction makes it appropriate for water, mild chemicals, and corrosive environments where carbon steel would not be acceptable. Typical install scenarios include manifold assemblies, pump inlet and outlet connections, boiler trim piping, and similar applications where a fixed-length threaded spool is needed between two female-threaded components.
Designed as a standard OEM-style replacement or new-installation component for Schedule 40 threaded piping systems using 2-1/2 in NPT female-threaded fittings, valves, and equipment connections.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or ASME B31 piping codes. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape rated for the service fluid before hand-tightening and wrenching to engagement - do not overtighten, as stainless steel threads can gall. Inspect threads on mating fittings for damage before installation.
