The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 48174 is a welded pipe nipple designed for threaded piping systems in plumbing, industrial, and mechanical applications. Constructed from 304 stainless steel with a Schedule 40 wall thickness, this nipple measures 12 inches in length and features 2-inch male pipe thread (MPT) connections on both ends. The 2-11/2 thread form conforms to ANSI B1.20.1 dimensional standards, ensuring consistent fit with standard NPT fittings and valves. Rated at 150 psi, it suits moderate-pressure liquid and gas piping. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and mechanical contractors typically specify this fitting for corrosion-resistant installations where stainless is required over carbon or galvanized steel.
This nipple is suited for residential and commercial piping installations where corrosion resistance and material compatibility are priorities. Common applications include potable water systems, food-service lines, chemical handling setups, and HVAC condensate or chilled-water piping. The 304 stainless steel construction resists rust and oxidation in wet or humid environments. Its standard MPT threading allows direct connection to female-threaded valves, couplings, tees, and other Schedule 40 fittings without adapters in most configurations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with Schedule 40 threaded piping systems using 2-inch NPT connections per ANSI B1.20.1 standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter following applicable IPC or IFGC code requirements for the specific service. Shut off and depressurize the piping system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten to a firm, leak-free engagement without over-torquing stainless threads, which can gall. Pressure-test the assembled system before returning to service.
