The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 48162 is a welded pipe nipple designed for use in plumbing, industrial piping, and fluid handling systems requiring a durable, corrosion-resistant threaded connection. Constructed from 304 stainless steel with a Schedule 40 wall thickness, this nipple measures 3 inches in length and 2 inches in diameter. It features male pipe threads (MPT) on both ends, machined to a 2-11.5 thread specification conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 dimensional standards. Rated at 150 psi, it is suited for moderate-pressure applications in water, steam, chemical, and general-purpose piping systems. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial plumbing systems, process piping, and mechanical rooms where a short threaded connection between two female-threaded fittings or valves is required. The 2-inch thread size makes it appropriate for main supply lines, manifold assemblies, pump connections, and similar high-flow applications. Its 304 stainless steel construction makes it a preferred choice in corrosive environments, outdoor installations, and food-service or chemical processing settings where carbon steel fittings would be unsuitable.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 2-inch female NPT threaded fittings, valves, and equipment ports conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread specifications.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified pipefitters following applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off and depressurize the piping system completely before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly, and tighten to hand-snug plus the number of turns appropriate for the pipe size per standard practice. Do not over-torque stainless steel threads, as galling can occur and damage both the nipple and the mating fitting.
