The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 48146 is a welded pipe nipple designed for threaded pipe assemblies in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping systems. Constructed from 304 stainless steel with a Schedule 40 wall rating, it delivers corrosion resistance and pressure integrity in both wet and dry service environments. The nipple measures 4.5 inches in length and 1.5 inches in diameter, with 1-1/2-11-1/2 male pipe thread (MPT) on both ends conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards. Rated to 150 psi, this fitting suits a wide range of fluid and gas transfer applications where durability and thread quality are critical. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers.
This nipple is used in residential and commercial piping installations where stainless steel is specified for corrosion resistance or sanitary requirements. Common applications include water supply lines, process piping, boiler connections, and HVAC hydronic systems. The 304 stainless construction makes it suitable for mildly corrosive media and environments where standard black iron or galvanized fittings would degrade prematurely. Its SCH 40 rating places it in standard-duty service across a broad range of system pressures up to 150 psi.
Designed as a standard SCH 40 threaded pipe nipple for use with 1-1/2 in NPT fittings, valves, and piping components in residential and commercial systems.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters following applicable IPC and local code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly; do not overtighten, as stainless threads can gall if driven without lubrication. Verify system pressure rating compatibility before returning the line to service.
