The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 44504 is a bronze reducer hex bushing designed to step down pipe thread sizes in plumbing, HVAC, and fluid distribution systems. It connects a 1/2-inch male pipe thread (MPT) inlet to a 1/4-inch female pipe thread (FPT) outlet, making it a practical solution for reducing line size at a threaded junction. Rated at 125 lb pressure class, this bushing is built for dependable service in moderate-pressure piping applications. The 0.93-inch hex profile allows for standard wrench installation. Licensed plumbers and HVAC techs use this fitting when adapting supply lines, gauges, or instrumentation ports that require a smaller thread size.
This reducer hex bushing is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing and HVAC piping systems where a threaded size reduction is needed in-line or at an equipment port. Typical applications include connecting 1/4-inch gauges, valves, or sensors to a 1/2-inch threaded pipe or fitting body. The bronze construction holds up well in water service and low-pressure gas and air systems where corrosion resistance matters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for 1/2-inch MPT to 1/4-inch FPT threaded connections in bronze piping systems meeting AWWA C800 and ASME B16.15 standards.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician. Shut off system pressure and drain the line before threading this bushing into place. Apply thread sealant tape or compound to the male threads in accordance with applicable IPC or IFGC requirements. Do not over-tighten; use wrench engagement on the hex flats only and avoid gripping the body.
