The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 44446 is a bronze reducing coupling designed to connect two female-threaded pipe ends of different sizes in a single inline fitting. It transitions from a 1-1/4-inch FPT connection to a 1-inch FPT connection, making it a direct solution for reducing pipe diameter without additional adapters. The coupling is manufactured from bronze, offering corrosion resistance suitable for water service and general plumbing applications. Threads conform to 1-1/4-11-1/2 and 1-11-1/2 specifications per ASME B1.20.1. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers for this type of fitting.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing systems where a pipe run steps down from 1-1/4-inch to 1-inch nominal pipe size. Typical applications include water distribution lines, irrigation supply headers, and service laterals. Its bronze construction makes it appropriate for potable water service lines and other applications governed by AWWA C800 requirements. The fitting meets multiple dimensional and performance standards, making it a reliable choice for code-compliant installations across a range of plumbing scenarios.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for residential and commercial plumbing systems using standard NPT-threaded bronze fittings in 1-1/4-inch and 1-inch nominal pipe sizes.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber in accordance with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC guidelines. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before threading this fitting into any pressurized line. Apply a listed thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads being engaged, and tighten to the fitting manufacturer recommendations using a pipe wrench - do not overtighten bronze fittings as this can crack the body. Inspect for leaks after restoring system pressure.
