The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 444006 is a brass fire hose hydrant adapter designed to connect a 2-1/2 inch NST (National Standard Thread) hydrant outlet to a 1-1/2 inch NST hose coupling. Built from solid brass, this adapter provides a durable, corrosion-resistant connection point in fire suppression and water supply applications. The reducer-style fitting allows firefighting crews, fire protection contractors, and municipal water system technicians to mate standard fire hydrant discharge ports with smaller-diameter fire hose lines. At 1.15 pounds and compact dimensions, it installs quickly in the field without special tooling.
This adapter is used in fire protection infrastructure where a hydrant outlet must be reduced to accommodate a smaller attack or supply line. Typical applications include municipal fire hydrant installations, standpipe systems, and fire department connections at commercial and industrial facilities. The 2-1/2 inch NST inlet matches standard fire hydrant discharge ports, while the 1-1/2 inch NST outlet threads directly onto standard single-jacket or double-jacket fire hose couplings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or supplemental fitting for standard fire hose and hydrant systems using National Standard Thread (NST) connections on both the 2-1/2 inch and 1-1/2 inch ports.
Installation should be performed by a licensed fire protection contractor or qualified fire suppression technician in accordance with applicable NFPA standards and local authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements. Shut off water supply and depressurize the hydrant or standpipe before threading the adapter onto the outlet. Hand-tighten the NST connections and use a spanner wrench to secure without overtightening, which can damage the threaded seats. Inspect the threads and internal seals for damage before placing the fitting into service.
