The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 44391 is a four-way bronze pipe cross with 1/4 in female pipe thread (FPT) connections on all four ports. It is designed for use in low-pressure fluid or gas distribution lines where a single pipe run must branch in two lateral directions simultaneously. Cast from bronze, the fitting resists corrosion in water, oil, and mild chemical service. It carries a 125 lb pressure class rating and conforms to thread standard ASME B1.20.1 with a 1/4-18 NPT thread form. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC mechanics install this type of fitting during new construction or system modification work.
This cross fitting is suited for residential and light commercial piping systems where a 1/4 in NPT branch point is required. Typical applications include instrument tap lines, gauge connections, compressed air distribution manifolds, water service laterals, and small-bore gas pilot lines. Its compact dimensions of 1.4 inches in length and 1.45 inches in width allow installation in tight mechanical spaces. The fitting meets AWWA C800, ASME B16.15, WW-P-460C, and MSS-SP-106 dimensional and material standards, making it acceptable across a range of commercial and municipal plumbing specifications.
Designed as a standard 1/4 in NPT bronze cross fitting suitable for low-pressure piping assemblies conforming to ASME B16.15 and related dimensional standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with the applicable plumbing code, such as the IPC or IFGC. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before cutting into an existing system. Apply an approved thread sealant or PTFE tape to all male threads before assembly and tighten to hand-tight plus the number of turns appropriate for the fitting size per the sealant manufacturer instructions. Do not over-torque bronze fittings, as the material is softer than ferrous iron and susceptible to thread damage under excessive force.
