The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 42028 is a Schedule 80 extra-heavy red brass pipe nipple with 1/4 in male pipe thread (MPT) on both ends and a 5 in body length. Red brass construction provides strong corrosion resistance in water, steam, and gas service applications. The 1/4-18 thread conforms to ANSI B1.20.1 for reliable, leak-free makeup. At 0.24 pounds, this nipple is a compact fitting designed for high-pressure or high-cycle installations where standard Schedule 40 wall thickness is insufficient. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians specify Schedule 80 nipples when system pressures or installation conditions demand greater wall strength than standard weight fittings provide.
This nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, hydronic heating, compressed air, and gas distribution systems where 1/4 in pipe connections are required. The extra-heavy Schedule 80 wall rating makes it appropriate for higher-pressure service runs and locations subject to mechanical stress or vibration. It is commonly used at equipment stub-outs, pressure gauge connections, test ports, and branch take-offs throughout plumbing and HVAC piping systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting compatible with standard 1/4 in female pipe thread (FPT) fittings, valves, and equipment ports conforming to ANSI B1.20.1 thread standards.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable codes such as the IPC or IFGC depending on service type. Shut off and depressurize the system completely before removing or installing any threaded pipe fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before assembly and tighten to proper engagement without over-torquing, which can crack brass fittings. Inspect threads for damage before installation to ensure a leak-free joint.
