The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 40055 is a seamless lead-free red brass pipe nipple rated for demanding plumbing and fluid-handling applications. Measuring 11 inches in length with a 3/8-inch male pipe thread (MPT) on each end, it carries a 3/8-18 thread form conforming to ANSI B1.20.1. The nipple is Schedule 40 rated with a 125 lb pressure class and a working pressure of 890 psi at 100 degrees F. Wall thickness is 0.09 inches, inside diameter is 0.495 inches, and outside diameter is 0.675 inches. Lead-free red brass construction makes it suitable for potable water service where lead-free compliance is required.
This nipple is used in residential and light commercial plumbing systems, gas distribution lines, compressed air piping, and hydronic heating circuits where a close or long extension between fittings is needed. The 11-inch length accommodates installations requiring a fixed standoff between valves, gauges, or other threaded components. Its broad temperature range of -20 to 400 degrees F supports both chilled and high-temperature service applications. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters commonly specify this style of nipple in both new construction and retrofit work.
Designed as a standard replacement or extension nipple for 3/8-inch NPT threaded systems in plumbing, gas, hydronic, and compressed air applications conforming to Schedule 40 pipe dimensions.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC or local plumbing code requirements. Shut off and depressurize the system fully before removing or installing any threaded pipe component. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads before makeup; do not overtighten, as brass threads can be damaged by excessive torque. Verify lead-free compliance requirements with the authority having jurisdiction before installation in potable water service.
