The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 38257 is a 90-degree brass elbow fitting designed to connect copper tubing to female iron pipe threads in compressed air brake and fluid line systems. It features a 1/2-inch C (compression-style) inlet on one end and a 3/8-inch FIP threaded outlet on the other, with an 11/16-20 thread specification. Constructed from brass, this fitting is rated for continuous service up to 150 psi and operates across a temperature range of -40 to 200 degrees F. Licensed plumbers, HVAC technicians, and fleet service mechanics install this fitting where a direction change and thread-to-tube transition are required in a single component.
This elbow is specified for use with SAE Type A and Type B copper tubing in D.O.T. air brake and copper tubing system assemblies. Its compact profile - 2.5 inches in length, 1.1 inches wide, and 0.85 inches in height - makes it practical in tight routing situations common in vehicle chassis plumbing, mechanical room piping, and light commercial compressed-air installations. The 90-degree angle eliminates the need for a separate street elbow and adapter, reducing potential leak points in the assembly.
Designed for use with SAE Type A and Type B copper tubing in D.O.T. air brake and copper tubing plumbing applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified plumber or certified fleet air brake technician following applicable IPC and D.O.T. regulations. Depressurize and isolate the system completely before removing or installing any fitting. Do not overtighten the compression connection; use only the torque method specified by the system manufacturer's guidelines. Inspect ferrule seating and thread engagement before returning the system to service.
