The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 35244CE is a cold-expansion PEX tee fitting manufactured from polyphenylsulfone (PPSU), a high-performance thermoplastic rated for demanding plumbing service. All three ports are 1 inch cold-expansion PEX connections, making this a straight equal tee for branching or splitting flow in a PEX distribution system. The cold-expansion connection method requires an expansion tool to temporarily enlarge the PEX tubing end before the ring and fitting are seated, producing a leak-resistant mechanical joint without soldering or crimping. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting in residential and light commercial potable water systems.
This fitting is suited for in-wall and in-slab PEX distribution systems where a full 1 inch branch is needed at each port. Typical applications include main trunk-line splits, manifold branch feeds, and retrofit tie-ins to existing PEX-A distribution runs. The cold-expansion method is common with PEX-A tubing manufactured to ASTM F1960 standards. All three connections accept 1 inch cold-expansion PEX, making the fitting interchangeable at any port for tee, branch, or straight-through configurations.
Designed for use with 1 inch PEX-A tubing and cold-expansion rings conforming to the ASTM F1960 standard. Consult the tubing and expansion ring manufacturer to confirm dimensional compatibility before installation.
Installation requires a calibrated cold-expansion tool and the correct 1 inch ASTM F1960 expansion rings. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before cutting into an existing system. Allow expanded tubing ends to fully recover and seat on the fitting barbs before restoring pressure, following the tool and tubing manufacturer's recommended recovery time. Work must comply with applicable local plumbing codes and IPC requirements for PEX piping systems.
