The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 35049CE is a lead-free brass cold expansion reducing union tee designed for cold-expansion PEX piping systems. It provides a three-port branch connection with 3/4-inch cold-expansion PEX inlets on ports one and two and a 1/2-inch cold-expansion PEX outlet on port three. The lead-free brass construction meets current potable water standards, making this fitting suitable for domestic water distribution. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting using a cold-expansion tool and PEX expansion rings, which are expanded onto the tubing before the fitting is inserted and allowed to recover for a secure, leak-resistant joint.
This fitting is used in residential and light commercial cold-expansion PEX plumbing installations where a branch reduction is required, such as splitting a 3/4-inch main line to feed a 1/2-inch branch supply to fixtures. It is well suited for hot and cold water distribution systems inside walls, ceilings, and mechanical chases where PEX is the specified pipe material. The reducing union design allows the tee to be serviced or removed without cutting into a rigid manifold.
Designed for use with cold-expansion PEX tubing systems requiring 3/4-inch and 1/2-inch cold-expansion connections. Confirm that expansion rings and tooling are matched to the appropriate PEX tubing size and standard before installation.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers following applicable IPC and local plumbing code requirements. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before cutting into any existing piping. Use a calibrated cold-expansion tool and correctly sized expansion rings rated for this fitting; do not substitute crimp or clamp-style rings on cold-expansion fittings. Allow the PEX tubing to recover fully around the fitting before pressurizing the system and checking for leaks.
