The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 35035CE is a lead-free brass cold-expansion reducing coupling designed for joining 1/2-inch cold-expansion PEX tubing to 3/8-inch cold-expansion PEX tubing in potable water and radiant heating systems. This fitting accepts cold-expansion PEX connections on both ends, requiring an expansion tool to flare the tubing before insertion for a secure, leak-resistant joint. The lead-free brass construction meets regulatory requirements for use in drinking water systems. At 0.05 pounds, the fitting is compact and suited for tight installation spaces. Licensed plumbers and pipe fitters install this type of coupling during new construction and remodel work where PEX distribution lines require a diameter reduction.
This reducing coupling is used in residential and light commercial plumbing applications where cold-expansion PEX piping systems require a transition between 1/2-inch and 3/8-inch supply lines. Common install scenarios include branch-line reductions feeding individual fixtures, manifold sub-distribution runs, and radiant floor heating zone feeds. Cold-expansion PEX systems are widely used in both hot and cold water distribution due to their flexibility, freeze resistance, and ease of installation compared to rigid copper or CPVC systems.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement fitting for cold-expansion PEX plumbing systems using 1/2-inch and 3/8-inch cold-expansion PEX tubing.
Installation requires a cold-expansion PEX expansion tool sized to each respective tubing diameter before inserting the fitting ends. Shut off the water supply and depressurize the line before cutting and fitting. This fitting category is typically installed by licensed plumbers in compliance with applicable local plumbing codes and standards such as the IPC. Do not substitute crimp or clamp-style PEX fittings in place of cold-expansion fittings, as the connection methods are not interchangeable.
