The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 28616W is a nylon hex nipple designed for joining threaded plastic piping systems where corrosion resistance and lightweight construction are priorities. Both ends feature 1-inch male pipe thread (MPT) with a 1-11-1/2 thread form, conforming to standard NPT taper dimensions. Rated to 125 psi and suitable for service from -40 degrees F to 200 degrees F, this fitting handles a broad range of fluid and low-pressure pneumatic applications. Its white nylon construction resists many common chemicals and eliminates the galvanic corrosion concerns associated with metal fittings. Plumbers and pipefitters install this fitting when connecting same-size threaded plastic pipe runs or transitioning between threaded plastic components.
This hex nipple is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, irrigation, pool and spa plumbing, and industrial fluid-transfer systems where nylon fittings are specified. The hex body profile allows a wrench to be seated squarely for controlled assembly without distorting the fitting body. Its compact dimensions make it practical in tight manifold and panel installations where space between threaded connections is limited.
Designed as a standard-pattern replacement hex nipple for 1-inch NPT threaded plastic piping systems. Suitable for use with other NPT-threaded nylon, PVC, or metal fittings and valves sharing the same 1-inch thread specification.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber or qualified pipefitter in accordance with applicable IPC and local plumbing codes. Shut off the water supply and relieve system pressure before disassembling any threaded connection. Use PTFE thread tape or a thread sealant rated compatible with nylon fittings - do not use petroleum-based pipe dope, which can degrade nylon. Tighten hand-tight plus no more than one to two turns with a wrench to avoid cracking the nylon body from overtorque.
