The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 28218 is a reducing hex pipe nipple designed to connect two different pipe thread sizes in a single inline fitting. It transitions from a 1/8-inch Male NPTF connection to a 1/16-inch Male NPTF connection, making it useful for reducing line size in low-volume fluid or gas passages. The fitting is machined from brass for corrosion resistance and reliable sealing. At roughly 1 inch in length with a 0.56-inch hex body, it installs with a standard wrench and fits into tight spaces. Pressure rating is 1200 psi, and the operating temperature range runs from -65 degrees F to 250 degrees F.
This nipple is suited for plumbing, HVAC, pneumatic, and light hydraulic applications where a threaded size reduction is needed without an additional coupling. The 1/8-27 x 1/16-27 thread specification meets NPTF dry-seal standards, supporting leak-resistant connections without relying solely on thread sealant. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, and pipefitters working on instrumentation ports, gauge taps, or pilot line connections are the primary installers of this type of fitting.
Rated for use with aluminum, brass, bronze, copper, iron, and steel pipe. Suitable for systems where 1/8-27 and 1/16-27 NPTF threaded connections are required.
Install using a wrench on the hex body. Do not grip the threaded ends with pliers or pipe wrenches, as this can damage the NPTF threads and compromise the seal. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape as required by the system or local code, even with NPTF threads, depending on media and pressure. Depressurize and drain the line fully before removing or installing any threaded fitting.
