The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 28209 is a brass extender adapter designed to extend or reposition threaded pipe connections in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping systems. It features a 3/4-inch Female NPTF inlet and a 3/4-inch Male NPTF outlet, allowing a straight in-line extension of a threaded connection without changing direction or size. The adapter is rated to 1000 psi and handles a temperature range of -65 to 250 degrees F, making it suitable for a broad range of fluid and gas service applications. Overall length is 1.69 inches with a 1.37-inch hex for wrench engagement. Licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians are the primary installers.
This extender adapter is used wherever a threaded pipe connection needs to be lengthened or brought forward to meet a mating fitting. Common applications include residential and commercial plumbing rough-in, gas piping, compressed air lines, and hydronic heating systems. The 3/4-14 thread pitch conforms to NPTF standards for pressure-tight joints without the need for sealant tape in all cases, though thread sealant is commonly applied per job requirements.
Compatible for use with brass, bronze, copper, steel, aluminum, and iron pipe systems using 3/4-inch NPTF threaded connections.
Installation is performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter using a properly sized wrench on the 1.37-inch hex flats. Shut off the supply line and depressurize the system before removing or installing any threaded fitting. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to male threads per the system fluid and local code requirements. Do not over-torque brass fittings, as this can crack the body or distort the threads.
