The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 28184 is a brass reducing coupling designed to connect two female NPTF threaded pipe ends of different sizes. It steps down from a 1/2-inch female NPTF port to a 1/4-inch female NPTF port, with a thread specification of 1/2-14 on the larger end and 1/4-18 on the smaller end. The overall length is 1.28 inches with a 1.06-inch hex for wrench engagement. Rated to 1200 psi, this coupling handles demanding pressure conditions across plumbing, pneumatic, and hydraulic line assemblies. It is installed by licensed plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians working with compressed air, gas, oil, or fluid distribution systems.
This reducing coupling is suited for residential and light commercial applications where a pipe run transitions between 1/2-inch and 1/4-inch lines. Compatible with brass, bronze, copper, steel, aluminum, and iron pipe systems, it fits a wide range of trade installations including fuel gas distribution, compressed air headers, hydraulic circuits, and instrument lines. The brass construction resists corrosion in both wet and dry service environments, making it a reliable choice for in-line pressure reductions wherever NPTF thread sealing is required.
Compatible with brass, bronze, copper, steel, aluminum, and iron pipe. Suitable for systems using 1/2-inch and 1/4-inch NPTF-threaded fittings across compressed air, hydraulic, fuel gas, and fluid distribution applications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified plumber, pipefitter, or HVAC technician. Depressurize and isolate the line completely before removing or installing any fitting. NPTF threads are designed to seal on the thread form itself; inspect threads for damage before assembly and apply thread sealant per system requirements and local code. Refer to applicable plumbing and mechanical codes, including IPC and IFGC guidelines, for pressure testing and inspection requirements after installation.
