The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 28088 is a cored barstock square head plug designed to close off pipe ends in pressurized fluid and gas systems. It features a 3/4-inch male NPTF connection with a 3/4-14 thread form and is rated to 1000 psi. Machined from solid brass barstock, it measures approximately 1.05 inches in length and 0.95 inches in width, with a square head profile that accepts a standard wrench for positive torque during installation. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians use this plug to cap pipe runs, test lines, and seal unused ports in both new construction and service work.
This plug is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, hydronic heating, refrigeration piping, compressed air, and general fluid-handling systems. The NPTF thread form provides a pressure-tight mechanical seal without relying solely on thread sealant. It is compatible with brass, bronze, copper, steel, aluminum, and iron pipe, making it a versatile solution across a wide range of pipe materials and system types. Temperature rating spans -65 to 250 degrees F, covering most typical in-building mechanical system operating ranges.
Designed for use with brass, bronze, copper, steel, aluminum, and iron pipe systems. The NPTF thread form is compatible with standard NPT female ports in plumbing, HVAC, and industrial piping applications.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or pipefitters in accordance with applicable IPC and IFGC requirements. Depressurize and drain the affected pipe section before installing or removing any threaded plug. Apply an appropriate thread sealant or PTFE tape to the male threads unless the NPTF dry-seal geometry alone meets the system requirement. Use a properly sized wrench on the square head - do not use pliers or pipe wrenches on the head faces, as this can damage the drive surfaces.
