The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 26198 is a captive sleeve male adapter designed to connect a 5/8-inch compression fitting to a 1/2-inch male NPTF threaded port. Constructed from brass, this adapter provides a reliable, leak-resistant joint in plumbing, HVAC, and gas distribution systems where dissimilar connection types must be joined. The captive sleeve design retains the compression sleeve on the fitting body, reducing the chance of losing components during installation. Rated for temperatures from -65 to 250 degrees F, this adapter handles a wide range of service conditions. It is installed by licensed plumbers, HVAC technicians, and gas service professionals working on tubing runs that terminate at threaded equipment ports.
This fitting is suited for residential and light commercial applications where copper or soft tubing must transition to a male NPTF threaded connection. Common use cases include refrigerant line accessories, natural gas appliance hook-ups, and hydronic or potable water tubing connections. The 5/8-inch compression inlet accommodates standard tubing of that outside diameter, while the 1/2-inch male NPTF thread provides a pressure-tight seal with a female NPTF port without requiring a separate sealant in many installations.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for systems requiring a 5/8-inch compression to 1/2-inch male NPTF transition in brass captive sleeve compression configurations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, HVAC technician, or gas service professional in accordance with applicable codes such as the IPC or IFGC. Shut off the supply line and relieve system pressure before disassembling any existing fittings or making new connections. Tighten the compression nut to hand-tight plus the additional turns specified by the tubing manufacturer for the material in use. Inspect for leaks after restoring system pressure before returning the system to service.
