The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 26197 is a captive sleeve male adapter designed to transition a 5/8-inch compression connection to a 3/8-inch male NPTF threaded port. Machined from brass, this fitting holds the compression sleeve captive on the nut, which simplifies handling and reduces the chance of losing components during installation. It is a standard fitting used in gas supply lines, refrigeration tubing, and plumbing distribution systems where a secure, leak-resistant connection between soft tubing and a threaded male port is required. At 0.14 pounds, it is compact and suited for confined spaces where a reliable mechanical connection is needed without welding or soldering.
This adapter is commonly installed in residential and light commercial applications where copper or aluminum tubing must connect to a threaded male NPTF port on valves, regulators, manifolds, or equipment inlets. Plumbers, pipefitters, and HVAC technicians use this type of fitting when transitioning from compression-style tubing runs to NPT-threaded components. It is appropriate for use in gas appliance supply, refrigeration service, and general fluid handling systems within rated pressure and temperature limits for brass compression fittings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for systems requiring a 5/8-inch compression to 3/8-inch male NPTF transition in brass compression fitting applications.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, pipefitter, or HVAC technician in accordance with applicable local codes and IFGC or IPC requirements. Shut off the gas or fluid supply and relieve system pressure completely before disassembling or installing any compression fitting. Hand-tighten the compression nut first, then use a wrench to snug the connection - do not overtighten, as this can deform the sleeve and compromise the seal. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the NPTF male threads as required by the service application.
