The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 26182 is a captive sleeve male adapter designed to transition a 1/4-inch compression connection to a 1/2-inch male NPTF threaded port. Constructed from brass, this fitting retains the compression sleeve as part of the assembly, which simplifies installation and reduces the risk of losing sleeve components during service. It is rated for temperatures from -65 degrees F to 250 degrees F, making it suitable for a wide range of fluid and gas line applications. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, and pipefitters install this type of fitting where a copper or soft-metal tubing run must terminate at a male NPTF port on a valve, manifold, or equipment connection.
This adapter is commonly used in residential and light commercial plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC systems where 1/4-inch tubing must connect to a 1/2-inch male NPTF fitting. Typical install scenarios include instrument tubing connections, gas supply lines, and appliance hookups. The captive sleeve design keeps the ferrule retained on the fitting body prior to assembly, which is especially useful in tight spaces or overhead work where loose components are difficult to manage.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation fitting for systems requiring a 1/4-inch compression to 1/2-inch male NPTF transition in brass captive sleeve compression configurations.
Installation should be performed by a licensed plumber, HVAC technician, or qualified pipefitter. Shut off and depressurize the supply line before disassembly or installation. Hand-tighten the NPTF threads first, then apply a wrench for final make-up; use thread sealant appropriate for the service medium on the NPTF threads. Do not overtighten the compression nut, as brass fittings can be damaged by excessive torque beyond standard practice for the tubing size.
