The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 26004 is a captive sleeve nut designed for 5/16-inch compression connections in plumbing and fluid-handling systems. Machined from brass, this nut retains the compression sleeve during assembly, reducing the chance of dropped components during installation in tight spaces. It is rated to 300 psi and handles temperatures from -65 to 250 degrees F, making it suitable for a range of liquid and gas service applications. The 1/2-24 thread size and 0.56-inch hex drive allow standard wrench installation. Licensed plumbers and pipefitters are the primary installers of this fitting type.
The 26004 is used in residential and light commercial plumbing, refrigeration tubing connections, and instrumentation or control-line assemblies where a 5/16-inch compression fitting is required. The captive sleeve design keeps the ferrule in place on the tube before final torque-down, which is especially useful in overhead or confined installations. This fitting is appropriate for copper and compatible soft-metal tubing applications where compression joints are code-acceptable.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or service fitting for systems using 5/16-inch compression-style tube connections where a captive sleeve nut is specified.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or pipefitter. Shut off and depressurize the line before disassembling any compression fitting. Use an appropriately sized open-end or flare-nut wrench on the 0.56-inch hex to avoid rounding the fitting. Do not overtighten compression nuts; follow applicable IPC or system manufacturer guidelines for joint make-up on compression fittings.
