The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 254X8 is a 45-degree barstock elbow fitting machined from brass, designed to connect hydraulic and fluid-carrying lines in plumbing and mechanical systems. It transitions from a 1/2-inch SAE 45-degree male flared end to a 3/8-inch male pipe thread (MPT), with a thread specification of 3/4-16 on the flare side and 3/8-18 on the pipe thread side. The fitting is rated to 750 psi and handles temperatures from -65 to 250 degrees F, making it suited for a wide range of hydraulic tubing applications. Licensed plumbers, HVAC technicians, and pipefitters install this type of fitting in refrigeration, fuel, and hydraulic line assemblies.
This elbow is intended for use with aluminum, brass, copper, and steel hydraulic tubing that can be flared to the SAE 45-degree specification. The 45-degree angle reduces directional stress on tubing runs where a sharp 90-degree turn would create excessive strain or flow restriction. It is commonly installed in residential and light commercial mechanical systems, including HVAC refrigerant lines, fuel delivery systems, and hydraulic control circuits where a direction change and thread transition are required in a compact space.
Compatible with aluminum, brass, copper, and steel hydraulic tubing that can be flared to SAE 45-degree standards. Suitable for systems requiring a 3/4-16 flare thread to 3/8-18 male pipe thread transition at a 45-degree angle.
This fitting is installed by licensed plumbers, HVAC technicians, or pipefitters working on hydraulic or fluid line systems. Shut off all system pressure and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any fitting. Use appropriate flaring tools to prepare the tubing end to the SAE 45-degree specification before seating the flare nut against the fitting. Apply thread sealant to the MPT threads as appropriate for the fluid service and in accordance with applicable codes.
