The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 21117 is a 90-degree single mini barb elbow fitting machined from brass. It connects 3/8-inch mini barb tubing on one end to a 1/8-inch male NPTF threaded port on the other, allowing a right-angle transition between flexible polythene tubing and a threaded fitting seat. The NPTF thread form - 1/8-27 - creates a pressure-tight dry seal without the need for additional tape or compound, though shop practice often dictates thread sealant per job requirements. Rated to 150 psi, this fitting is sized for use with 1/4-inch inside diameter polythene tubing and handles operating temperatures from -65 degrees F to 90 degrees F. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, and pneumatic system installers typically specify this fitting where a compact inline direction change is needed.
This fitting is suited for residential and light commercial applications where small-diameter polythene tubing must be routed around an obstruction or turned toward a threaded port on a valve, manifold, or instrument body. The compact dimensions - under 1 inch in length - make it practical in tight equipment enclosures. Common applications include low-pressure pneumatic control lines, water treatment or filtration tubing runs, and similar fluid-handling assemblies where a reliable 90-degree transition from flexible tubing to a threaded connection is required.
Designed for use with 1/4-inch inside diameter polythene tubing and 1/8-inch male NPTF threaded ports. Compatible with systems and components accepting a 1/8-27 NPTF thread standard.
Shut off fluid or air supply and depressurize the line before installing or replacing any fitting. A plumber or pipefitter should verify that the mating port accepts NPTF thread before installation, as NPTF and NPT are similar but not identical in sealing behavior. Hand-tighten first, then use an appropriately sized wrench - over-tightening brass fittings can crack the hex or distort the barb. Secure the barb end with an appropriate clamp or verify that working pressure does not exceed the barb retention rating of the specific tubing used.
