The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 195521 is a flexible rubber drain and trap coupling designed to connect drain and trap piping of two different sizes without rigid fittings. It bridges a 2-inch connection on one end to a 1-1/2-inch connection on the other, making it a practical solution for offset or misaligned drain assemblies. The gray rubber construction allows for slight angular and axial movement, reducing stress on threaded or glued joints nearby. Rated at 150 psi working pressure with a 4.3 psi test pressure, it is built for standard residential and light commercial drain applications. Licensed plumbers and drain-service technicians are the typical installers.
This coupling is intended for use with Schedule 40 pipe and is suited for drain, waste, and trap piping found in residential and commercial plumbing systems. Its reducer configuration makes it especially useful during retrofits or repairs where existing drain lines transition between 2-inch and 1-1/2-inch pipe - common in sink, lavatory, and utility-drain installations. The operating temperature range of -30 degrees F to 140 degrees F covers typical indoor drain service conditions without degradation to the rubber body.
Designed for use with Schedule 40 pipe; connects 2-inch pipe on one end to 1-1/2-inch pipe on the other end. Suitable as an OEM-style replacement or new-installation component in residential and light commercial drain and trap assemblies.
Installation is performed by licensed plumbers or qualified drain-service technicians in accordance with applicable plumbing codes such as the IPC. Shut off water supply and clear standing water from the drain line before beginning work. The manufacturer specifies an installation torque of 60 inch-pounds on the clamp bands - use a torque-capable screwdriver or nut driver and do not over-tighten, as excess torque can deform the rubber sleeve. Inspect the mating pipe ends for burrs or debris before seating the coupling to ensure a leak-free seal.
