The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 18167 is a brass female adapter fitting that connects 7/8 inch compression tubing to a 1/2 inch female National Pipe Thread (FNPTF) port. Built from solid brass, this adapter is rated to 75 psi and handles temperatures from -65 degrees F to 250 degrees F, making it suitable for a wide range of fluid and gas distribution applications. The compression end accepts copper, aluminum, and thermoplastic tubing, providing flexible installation options across multiple tubing materials. With a 1.19 inch hex and a center-to-end length of 1.28 inches, it fits into tight spaces where a reliable, leak-resistant mechanical connection is required. Licensed plumbers and HVAC technicians are the primary installers of this fitting.
This adapter is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, refrigeration, and HVAC systems where a compression-to-pipe-thread transition is needed. The 7/8 inch compression side is a common size in refrigeration and fuel gas tubing runs, while the 1/2 inch FNPTF end mates directly to standard NPT male threaded components such as valves, manifolds, and equipment ports. It is particularly useful in retrofit and repair scenarios where tubing must connect to a threaded fitting without soldering or brazing.
Designed for use with copper, aluminum, and thermoplastic tubing at the 7/8 inch compression end, and compatible with any standard 1/2 inch male NPT threaded port or fitting.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician following applicable IPC or IFGC codes for the service type. Shut off and depressurize the line completely before removing or installing any compression fitting. Hand-tighten the compression nut first, then snug with a wrench - avoid over-tightening, which can crack thermoplastic tubing or distort the ferrule. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the FNPTF threads as required by the applicable code and the fluid being conveyed.
