The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 18148 is a brass compression-to-female NPT adapter designed to connect compression tubing lines to female NPT threaded ports. The fitting transitions a 1/4 inch compression connection to a 1/2 inch FNPTF (female National Pipe Taper Fuel) port. It is rated to 300 psi and operates across a temperature range of -65 to 250 degrees F. The 18148 is commonly installed by plumbers, HVAC technicians, and mechanical contractors where copper, aluminum, or thermoplastic tubing must terminate at a threaded fitting. Thread dimensions are 7/16-24 on the compression side and 1/2-14 NPT on the female port side.
This adapter is suited for residential and light commercial plumbing, refrigeration, and gas distribution applications where a compression tube meets a female pipe thread connection. It is compatible with copper, aluminum, and thermoplastic tubing on the compression side. The compact form factor, with a 0.87 inch hex and a center-to-end dimension of 1.02 inches, makes it practical in tight installations where clearance is limited. Typical install scenarios include appliance supply lines, instrument tubing, and low-pressure gas or fluid control systems.
Designed for use with copper, aluminum, and thermoplastic tubing on the compression side. Compatible with standard 1/2 inch female NPT threaded ports on the pipe side.
Installation is typically performed by a licensed plumber or HVAC technician. Shut off all fluid or gas supply and depressurize the line before disassembly or installation. Hand-tighten the compression nut first, then apply a final snug turn with an appropriately sized wrench on the 0.87 inch hex - do not overtighten, as brass compression fittings can deform the ferrule or crack if over-torqued. Apply thread sealant or PTFE tape to the NPT threads as required by local plumbing codes.
