The MIDLAND INDUSTRIES 17181N is a nylon compression-to-male-iron-pipe (MIP) adapter fitting designed to transition a 1/4-inch compression connection to a 3/8-inch MIP threaded connection. Constructed from white nylon, this fitting handles pressures up to 125 psi and operates across a temperature range of -40 to 200 degrees F. Its lightweight plastic construction makes it well suited for low-pressure fluid and gas distribution lines where corrosion resistance and cost efficiency matter. Plumbers, HVAC technicians, and appliance service pros install this type of adapter when connecting copper or plastic tubing runs to threaded male fittings on valves, manifolds, or appliances.
This adapter fits typical residential and light commercial plumbing and HVAC applications where a compression tube end must terminate at a male NPT port. Common install scenarios include ice maker supply lines, refrigerator water connections, humidifier feed lines, and similar low-pressure water or air service lines. The 1/4-inch compression end accepts standard tubing, while the 3/8-inch MIP thread engages a female NPT port on the receiving component. No soldering or crimping is required at the compression end.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or new-install plastic compression male connector for residential and light commercial plumbing, HVAC, and appliance water supply applications where a 1/4-inch compression tube meets a 3/8-inch female NPT port.
Installation falls within the scope of licensed plumbers or qualified HVAC technicians following applicable IPC and local plumbing codes. Shut off and depressurize the supply line completely before disassembling or installing any fitting. Hand-tighten the MIP thread into the female port first, then apply wrench torque only as needed to achieve a leak-free seal - overtightening nylon fittings can crack the body. After restoring pressure, inspect the compression and threaded joints for leaks before returning the system to service.
